Building the avian tree of life using a large-scale, sparse supermatrix
Abstract
We inferred a 6714-taxon avian phylogeny from a 29-locus supermatrix. The tree is consistent with recent multi-gene analyses, but with many more taxa. Orders were monophyletic and well supported, as were most families and many genera. Some families and genera had little or no support, likely due to taxonomic disagreements. The tree should be useful for future comparative analyses.
