Removing the "Plateau" from Hot White Dwarf Luminosity Functions
Abstract
A few years after publishing the observed hot white dwarf luminosity function, the problem of the plateau in the DA luminosity function was solved. The apparent cause of the plateau was the presence of a population of low mass white dwarfs in the white dwarf sample used for calculations. In this work we present the observed hot DA and non-DA luminotity functions calculated after excluding white dwarfs with masses below 0.49 M⊙, as well as the non-DA to DA WD ratio.
