The extraordinary modulation of very low-energy galactic electrons in the outer heliosphere
Abstract
The modulation of 6-14 MeV electrons in the outer heliosphere, particularly in the inner heliosheath, has exhibited extraordinary features which had not been observed closer to the Sun. A comprehensive numerical model, including shock acceleration and particle drifts, is used to study these features close to the solar wind termination shock (TS) and up to the heliopause (HP) in comparison with observations by the Voyager 1 spacecraft. A new very local interstellar electron spectrum is calculated and utilized to compute electron intensities at these low energies in the inner heliosheath, across the TS and the HP. Results will be shown and discussed.
