The intriguing X-ray variability of HD 150136
Abstract
HD 150136 is a multiple system harboring the nearest O3-type star. Its lightcurve indicates clear X-ray variability, whose origin is thought to be due to a collision between the stellar winds. We recently obtained the first Chandra observation of HD 150136 covering an entire orbital period of 2.7 days. Our goal is definitively to identify the cause of the X-ray variability. In addition, we plan to use the eclipses to obtain a direct measurement of the radius of an O3 star for the very first time. We will present the first results of our detailed X-ray study of HD 150136.
