Anode modification to improve the performance of a microbial fuel cell volatile fatty acid biosensor
Abstract
We have investigated the ability of carbon/polymer composites to maintain temporal stability in a MFC based VFA sensor. We have evaluated the performance of the syntrophic biofilm on a carbon electrode modified by six natural polymers and electropolymers. We determined that poly(pyrrole-alkyl ammonium) accelerated start up of MFC based sensors and provided greatest stability, repeatability and signal recovery.
