About One Method of Determination of Wavelength in Spicules: Case of Very Long Waves
Abstract
If the wavelength of the wave is comparable with the length of the spicules, it is easy to determine its value using an image of the spicule. When the wavelength is much greater than the length of the spicules, the authors propose the following method to determine the minimum value of length of the wave: on the wave the difference between the beginning and the end of the displacement of the spicule is less than the resolution of the telescope, so this difference is not visible in the image; then, equating the value of the difference to resolution of the telescope, we obtain the minimum value of the wavelength. For three spicules using proposed method were found following minimum wavelengths: 115 000km, 80 000km and 60 000km.Mechanism of generation of such superlength waves in spicules is unknown.
