Interstellar magnetic fields
Abstract
We review the observational properties of interstellar magnetic fields in the disk and halo of our Galaxy. These properties are inferred from a variety of observational methods, primarily based on polarization of starlight and dust thermal emission, Zeeman splitting, Faraday rotation, and synchrotron emission. We briefly present each of these methods and explain how it has contributed to our present knowledge and understanding of interstellar magnetic fields.
