A Spectroscopic Survey for OB stars in the Perseus Arm
Abstract
We propose a R-C spectrograph (RCSP) survey of candidate OB stars in a large (120 square degree) section of the outer Galaxy to constrain the distances to star-forming regions found in a WISE mid-infrared survey of the same portion of the sky. Accurate spectral types provided by RCSP are essential to calculate distances via the spectroscopic parallax technique. WISE mid-infrared morphology of the star forming regions (H II region shells visible at 12 micron, heated dust at 22 micron) provides us with high confidence that the targets are associated with the regions in question and are almost certainly OB type. Accurate distances to these regions will allow us to compute the star-formation rate in the Perseus and Outer Arms of the Milky Way, and to constrain the spiral structure.
