SAR Imaging of Polar Lows
Abstract
The forecasting of polar lows may in some cases be improved by the use of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). In this study we assess the added information from SAR in two cases of polar lows compared to the data normally used in the forecasting process. Sharp wind gradients and possible early detection of a polar low are found. The size of the gradients are however disputable due to uncertainty in the input wind directions to the CMOD5 function.
