Use seismic data by chirp sonar to estimate physical parameters of the seabed sediments
Abstract
This study's main target is to estimate the physical parameters of seabed sediments by acoustic wave. To know its physical parameters, we were use to practical grabbing the samples of seabed sediments in traditional. But it will only get the data of single point. So we want to get a method which is more efficient and precise. Here is our study method, (a)Do correction for the acoustic energy before sonar system work. ( The type of chirp sonar we use is SB-216S producing by EdgeTech whose frequency band is 2-10kHz.) (b)Interpret the reflection seismic data. (c)Estimate reflection coefficient of the seabed. (d)Find proper relation between reflection coefficient and acoustic impedance. (e)Estimate physical parameters of seabed sediments by acoustic impedance. (f)Using physical parameters of the seabed sediments to estimate the attenuation of acoustic power transporting in the sea. (g)Using attenuation value to correct reflection coefficient, acoustic impedance, etc. (h)Select the experimental site to do the reflection seismic survey and grab the samples of seabed sediments. Then, using the distributed characteristic of seabed sediments we know in experimental site to verify the physical parameters we estimated from reflection seismic data. To prove the accuracy of our method, we use the bottom sampler to seabed sediments in the experimental site as foregoing statement and do the particle size analysis. At last, we will conclude the feasibility of the method we study.
