Effective research method and problems of the Paleotsunami in Taiwan
Abstract
Paleotsunami is one of valuable tools for identification of paleoearthquake in the tectonically active coast, including Taiwan. The reconstruction of paleotsunami events has been rapidly developed during the last decade. However, the study on paleotsunami has not been done though three times of paleo tsunamis were recorded in Taiwan. Also no geologic works were carried out to find tsunami deposits then uplift rate is fast, and sediment is coarse in Taiwan coast, it is hard to detecd tsunami deposit. In a distinctive tectonic and morphologic in taiwan, we consider what kind of tsunami sediment investigation is effective concretely.
