Successful waste management strategies in developing countries require meaningful involvement of the concerned stakeholders
Abstract
The first thing that always comes to mind when thinking of waste management is the question, "How do I get rid of things that I don't require anymore?" Generally, waste management is reduced to this one question in industrial countries today. The question is aimed at the expert level where the sole discussion is about technique and organization in a setting in which preferably, the daily routine of the common citizen is not affected and the costs are kept within an accepted limit. Original aspects of waste management, dealing with public hygiene, socio-economic aspects, urban mechanisms and aesthetic view points, are out of date.
