Multi-wavelength imaging of the newly discovered young supernova remnant G306.3-0.9
Abstract
The Swift Galactic Plane Survey recently detected a new Galactic X-ray source Swift J132150.9-633350 (G306.31-0.89), reported in ATel #3415. A high spatial and spectral resolution X- ray follow-up with Chandra confirmed that this source is a young supernova remnant. Given its high X-ray temperature and small angular size, this is potentially the youngest Galactic SNR discovered to date, with an estimated age of less than 140 years. We propose a multi-wavelength study of this supernova remnant, with the aim of getting high resolution radio images and full polarisation data. These ATCA observations will allow us to investigate the interaction between this object and its environment. Combined with existing radio data from Molonglo, we will be able to measure the expansion of the remnant over the last few decades, constraining its likely age.
