Galaxy Evolution - A Pathfinder Study
Abstract
We propose a CABB survey of a high-density 2dFGRS field and an equatorial GAMA field in conjunction with Parkes observations. We will study the gaseous (HI) evolution of galaxies to z=0.2. By co-adding spectra in the primary beam, effective integration times of decades can be achieved. Such long integration times, in the potential presence of significant RFI, will be an excellent test of techniques that will be required to fully utilise data from future surveys with ASKAP. Simultaneously, we plan to use the data to study the evolution of radio galaxies and the magnetic structure of the South Galactic Cap. In semester 2011APRS we propose a pilot study to test the data quality in these two regions, and our ability to calibrate confusion.
