Thermostructural Characterization Of Materials Of The Expert Capsule
Abstract
In order to characterize and analyse the TPS materials for reentry applications, investigations and assessment of flight environment is essential as well as a strong correlation with the available ground testing techniques and tools. The main goals of the studies on materials, foreseen in the EXPERT post-flight phase, regard in particular the increasing of the knowledge about innovative materials used in the TPS hot structures for designing the future reentry space vehicles and the improvement, optimization and integration of all design tools used for aerospace thermostructural studies such as CFD simulation codes, thermostructural FEM simulation programs, etc. In the present paper, an overview of all scientific experimental and theoretical studies foreseen in the EXPERT post-flight phase is presented with particular emphasis to the expected post-flight improvements and results about TPS materials for aerospace reeentry applications.
