Long-Duration Leo Mission Experience With ABSL Batteries Onboard The Myriade SmallSAT Platform
Abstract
The implementation of lithium-ion batteries in space has been led by European agencies and primes. An excellent example of the early adoption and use of this technology in space is provided by the Myriade platform. Myriade was developed by CNES as a short lead-time, low cost, small satellite platform. By leveraging advances in various technologies the Myriade platform offers competitive performance within a low volume solution.
Each Myriade platform uses a 15Ah lithium-ion battery supplied by ABSL Space Products. Each battery is designed using ABSL's small cell approach using COTS cells. The use of highly uniform COTS cells and ABSL's proprietary screening and matching routine negates the need for balancing electronics, simplifying the system level design. To date, batteries have been supplied for more than fifteen Myriade platforms, ten Myriade spacecraft have been launched thus far. This paper will analyse battery performance on board the oldest of these in-orbit Myriade platforms - Demeter and Parasol.- Publication:
