Topics in Equatorial Wave Theory
Abstract
Paraphrasing a famous course description by Harvard Professor George F. Carrier, this poster will present a "haphazardly selected superficial (but advanced!) investigation" in the propagation of linear equatorial waves. Vertical acceleration and the horizontal component of the earth's rotation will be taken into account. A single scalar field (generalized stream function) will be introduced to represent all the quantities of interest, including pressure, density, and all three velocity components. Non-separability effects on the vertical normal modes will be explored.
