Impacts of extreme events on global carbon dynamics. An overview
Abstract
I'll provide an overview of key climate events and disturbances responsible for (1) globally significant anomalies of the atmospheric growth of carbon dioxide and methane, and (2) significant departures from mean regional carbon balances. This will include the influence of droughts, land use and its interaction with climate variability, rapid cooling due to volcanic eruptions, and warming episodes from pole to equator. A critical analysis of the effects of extreme events on carbon dynamics brings new insights into the potential magnitude of carbon-climate feedbacks under future climate change.
