Detection of Earthquake Precursors by Satellite Methods and their Verification Using the Laser Strainmeter Systems
Abstract
Satellite-monitoring radio-systems and precise ground- based laser interferometer instruments have been applied to pre-seismic and co-seismic phenomena investigation. By use of the developed experimental methods it was shown that the time-spatial atmosphere and ionosphere anomaly modifications above the epicenter areas of future earthquakes could be considered as the precursors of significant seismic events. The valuable ionosphere variations, including the F2-peak height descents, have been observed from tens of hours up to few days before the strong earthquakes. The phenomena foregoing and accompanying seismic events for the regional M=4 and remote M=7-8 earthquakes are discussed.
