PROMETHEO: A Small Satellite with Electric Propulsion for IR/Optical High Resolution Images
Abstract
This paper contains the preliminary ideas on how to design an Earth Observation mission called PROMETEO (electrical PROpulsion for drag coMpEnsaTion and Earth Observation), that is based on a LEO microsatellite embarking a pan sharpened camera and an electrical propulsion Subsystem (S/S). The use of Electric Propulsion on Earth Observation application allows to save up a lot of propellant. The PROMETEO data in the visible and MWIR, might be well fused with Sentinel-1 SAR and Sentinel-2 polar-orbiting satellites that will provide 13 spectral bands spanning from the visible and near infrared (VNIR) to the shortwave infrared (SWIR). Hence, the mean PROMETEO objective is the acquisition of high resolution optical and IR images for safety applications.
