The diagnosis of the crust, and AE earthquake precursors
Abstract
The diagnosis of the state of the crust is fundamental for earthquake hazard assessment, much in advance with respect to the catastrophe of the system. Earthquake precursors are symptoms of a very complicate natural reality, and unavoidably require a multidisciplinary monitoring. The focus in on three main items: (i) magnitude of the event, (ii) epicentral area, (iii) timing. Acoustic emission (AE) is very effective for the timing concern. The leading rationale of the problem and its algorithms are briefly presented and discussed, on the basis of several exploited applications. References Gregori et al.,in press, Nat.
