Supernova 2010fw in UGC 10995
Abstract
J. M. Silverman, I. K. W. Kleiser, C. V. Griffith, and A. V. Filippenko, University of California, Berkeley, report that inspection of a CCD spectrum (range 340-1000 nm), obtained on July 7 UT with the 3-m Shane reflector (+ Kast) at Lick Observatory, shows that 2010fw (CBET 2351) is a type-II supernova. After removal of the host-galaxy recession velocity of 8100 km/s, determined by narrow emission lines, it is found that the absorption minimum of the H-alpha line, which is greatly dominated by the emission component, is blueshifted by about 10000 km/s. Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the "SuperNova IDentification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) indicates that 2010fw is most similar to the type-II supernova 2004et at maximum light.
