The Life Cycles of Radio Galaxies
Abstract
We have begun an archival study of radio sources that may have undergone multiple periods of activity and through a cross-spectrum analysis we will attempt to place constraints on the evolution of these galaxies. Our sample includes GHz-Peaked Spectrum (GPS), X-shaped, and double-double radio sources which are all representative of critical events in the life cycle of a radio galaxy. So far, we have extracted the multi-wavelength archival data for each source and reduced the sample down to the thirty-one galaxies (20 GPS, 2 double-double, 9 X-shaped) in which data was available in the IR (2MASS), optical (HST/SDSS), UV (Galex), X-ray(Chandra/XMM) and radio (VLA). For each of these galaxies, we have created a composite image made up of images from all of these wavelengths so that the features can be easily viewed and compared. The Spectral Energy Distributions are shown. The next step in the project is to begin a qualitative comparison of the sources.
