Local Galaxy Colors versus Type Ia Supernovae
Abstract
We study the colors of the underlying locations of the galaxies where we have found type Ia supernovae (SNIa) in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Supernova Survey. This is done using Scene Modeling Photometry described in Holtzman 2008 (The Astronomical Journal 136 (2008) 2306-2320) which uses all the available images to simultaneously measure the varying supernova and the constant underlying galaxy. We observe little correlation between the parameters of the SNIa light curves and the underlying galaxy colors, but note that SNIa occur preferentially in bluer regions of their host galaxy.
