The Physical Properties of Asteroid 2867 Steins
Abstract
We will present an overview of the physical properties of the E-type asteroid 2867 Steins from the OSIRIS campaign during the Rosetta flyby (September 2008), from ground-based observations, and from recent thermal spectroscopy obtained with the Spitzer space telescope. A complete shape solution has been obtained from the combination of resolved images and inversion of light curves. We will discuss the properties of the impact craters, the formation of the large crater and its consequences on topographic features and the possible influence of the YORP effect in shaping Steins. We will review and confront the various sources of information on the composition and surface photometric properties of Steins.
