Supernova 2009bw in UGC 2890
Abstract
V. Stanishev, Centro Multidisciplinar de Astrofisica, Instituto Superior Tecnico, Lisbon, reports that a spectrum of 2009bw (cf. CBET 1743), obtained on Mar. 29.37 UT by A. Adamo and G. Micheva with the Nordic Optical Telescope (+ ALFOSC), shows it to be a type-II supernova soon after explosion. The spectrum consists of a blue continuum with superimposed broad P-Cyg profiles of the hydrogen Balmer lines; but, in addition, H_alpha shows a narrow emission component at the host-galaxy redshift (1155 km/s; Schneider et al. 1992, Ap.J. Suppl. 81, 5). Interstellar Na I absorption lines in the Milky Way and at the redshift of UGC 2890 are visible with equivalent widths of about 0.16 nm and 0.08 mn, respectively.
