Did the past underground nuclear explosions mitigate earthquakes that otherwise could be stronger?
Abstract
A brief survey of the records of historical strong earthquakes and underground nuclear explosions conducted in the last Century indicates apparent correlation between them, showing no records of strong earthquakes with magnitudes larger than 8.3 during the period when underground nuclear explosions were conducted. Therefore, scientific studies to investigate possible correlation between them would be worthwhile.
