SED Fitting Of The Inner 2°X1° Of The Galaxy
Abstract
We use our previously published Spitzer IRAC-2MASS catalog of the point sources within the inner ∼2°X1.4° (280x200pc) of the Milky Way Galaxy (Ramirez et al. 2007), combined with the publicly available spectral energy distribution (SED) tool by Robitaille et al. (2007), to perform a detailed analysis of the stellar content within the Galactic center. In order to achieve the best results in accurately fitting the SEDs, we combine the 1-8 µm IRAC-2MASS data with longer wavelength data such as ISOGAL and MIPS catalogs, where publicly available. In addition, we have obtained J band (1.25 µm) data for an approximate 1° portion of the inner galactic plane using the facility instrument IRIS2 at the Anglo-Australian Telescope. Due to increased confusion toward the Galactic center, the completeness of the 2MASS catalog in this region is approximately J=14, H=13.5, and K=13. The high extinction towards the GC (J-K∼6) means that numerous point sources detected with IRAC and in the H and K bands do not have J band counterparts in 2MASS catalog. Our AAT J band observations have a completeness of J∼18.5, significantly improving the accuracy of SED fits at the shorter wavelengths. We will use the SED fits to explore both the stellar content and map the extinction across our survey field.
