Detailed Kinematics and Modeling of NGC 6337, a Planetary Nebula with a Binary Nucleus
Abstract
We present a spatio-kinematic study of the planetary nebula, NGC 6337, using Hα and [N II] spectra acquired with the spectrograph MES on the 2.1 m telescope at San Pedro Mártir. Images of this nebula show a thick ring as well as regions of low, ionization emission to the north and south of it which we call caps (FLIERs). [N II] spectral lines show high velocity bipolar outflows (200 km s-1). Using the code SHAPE with the [N II] spectral lines, we modeled the 3-dimensional structure of NGC 6337. We found that, in addition to the ring and caps, this nebula has a bipolar, point-symmetric jet. NGC 6337 has a close binary core though it is unclear how this has influenced its structure.
