Structure in the Low-Latitude Ionosphere: EPB and Observations of Mid-latitude Ionospheric Features from the TIMED/GUVI Instrument
Abstract
The GUVI instrument on TIMED is operating in a new mode: the "spectrograph" mode is one in which instead of performing cross-track scans the instrument operates viewing in a fixed direction. This mode allows us to investigate the spatial structure of the mid-latitude ionosphere from space. In this talk we will discuss new results from this mode and compare the solar maximum and solar minimum behaviour observed. We will describe comparison with groundand space-based observations of these structures. This capability allows us to see variations of a fraction of a TEC unit with a spatial resolution of 20 km. We will also present and discuss the results of our comprehensive study of the occurence frequency and distribution of equatorial bubbles from 2002 to 2007.
