Observations of SN 1006 with HESS
Abstract
Observations of the shell-type supernova remnant SN 1006 were carried out with the H.E.S.S. system of telescopes in 2003 (with two telescopes) and 2004 (with full system), leading to an upper limit of 2.19 × 10-12 ph cm-2 s-1 at 99.9% CL above 260 GeV. Recent theoretical predictions of the TeV luminosity of SN 1006 under various scenarii are only a factor 2 or 3 below the H.E.S.S. published upper limit, thus providing strong support for resuming in-depth observations of this source. These are currently being carried out by H.E.S.S. since 2006. New results and implications for different models will be presented at the conference.
