Large-Scale Wind Variability of WR1 (HD 4004); Towards the Rotation Rate of Wolf-Rayet Stars
Abstract
The rotational velocities of two Galactic Wolf-Rayet stars, WR 6 and WR 134, have already been determined in past work from observations of periodic spectral and photometric variabilities. These changes are thought to be due to large-scale spiral structures in the wind formed by the combination of perturbations at the base of the wind and stellar rotation. Here we present the results for a third star, WR 1 (HD 4004), for which we find a rotation period of 16.72 days. Depending on the stellar radius one adopts, this leads to a rotation velocity between 10 and 50 kms.
