Mid-IR solar occultation spectrometry from balloons
Abstract
The JPL MkIV balloon interferometer is a mid-IR FTIR spectrometer which has been acquiring high resolution solar occultation spectra for nearly 20 years. These spectra are analyzed to produce vmr profiles of over 30 different atmospheric gases. We present some recent trace gas results and discuss the advantages and drawbacks of balloon observations versus satellites.
