Polarized 11LI Beam at Triumf and its Application for Spectroscopic Study of the Daughter Nucleus 11BE
Abstract
High polarization (50-80%) of nuclear spin has been successfully achieved in low energy alkali radioactive nuclear beams (10-60 keV) by the collinear optical pumping technique at TRIUMF. The polarized 11Li beam was used to study the excited states in 11Be through the β-delayed neutron- and γ-decays. The β-decay asymmetry was very effective to establish the level scheme and decay scheme: The spins and parities of 7 levels in 11Be were firmly assigned for the first time.
