The u'g'r'i'z' Zero Age Main Sequence Project I: The Coma Berenices and Chi Persei Main Sequences
Abstract
In 1957, Allan Sandage defined 11 star clusters that form the Zero Age Main Sequence (ZAMS). The ZAMS for the UBVRI system is quite established (Schmidt-Kaler 1982), but there is insufficient data to build the ZAMS for the u'g'r'i'z' system at this time. We are in the process of obtaining u'g'r'i'z' data from each of the eleven clusters to build the u'g'r'i'z' ZAMS. In February 2007, we collected data from Mel 111, the Coma Berenices open cluster, and NGC 884, the Chi Persei cluster. We gathered the data using the Red Buttes Observatory's Orion 8-inch reflector. Through the use of PSF photometry, we will present the u'g'r'i'z' color-magnitude diagram for each cluster. A preliminary ZAMS for the u'g'r'i'z' system will be introduced. This work is part of the Wyoming SURAP REU program funded by the NSF grant ASTR-0353760.
