Ultraviolet Diamond Photodetector
Abstract
Diamond is a very promising material for UV and X-ray sensing applications. Due to its wide bandgap (of 5.5 eV) diamond present low thermal noise, low dark current levels, high visible-XUV signal discrimination and high sensitivity to radiation with energy greater than the bang gap one. Furthermore diamond radiation hardness is very appealing for applications in extreme environments or as monitor of high fluency radiation beams. In order to analyse the performances of diamond based photoconductors under synchrotron UV light a series of measure at the DAΦNE-Light facilities have been planned. In this work the results of some preliminary measure sessions at the UV beam-line have been reported. These measures were dedicated to perform a sensitivity characterisation of single crystal diamond based photoconductors.
