Bulk and local magnetization in CeAl 2 and CeB 6
Abstract
Precision magnetoresistance (MR) Δ ρ/ρ( H,T) and magnetization M( H,T) measurements have been carried out for two archetypal magnetic systems CeAl 2 and CeB 6 with strong electron correlations. The experimental data are discussed in the framework of a simple relation between resistivity and magnetization -Δ ρ/ρ∼M2 obtained by K. Yosida [Phys. Rev. 107 (1957) 396]. Local magnetic susceptibility χloc( T,H) =( 1/H(d(Δ ρ/ρ) /d H)) 1/2 was deduced directly from the main component of MR and compared in details with the results of bulk susceptibility χ( T,H) measurements. Two additional second order contributions have also been detected in MR ((i) linear ( ~H) and (ii) nanoscale ferromagnetic components).
