Evolution of the Globular Cluster Luminosity Function - A Monte Carlo Simulation Study
Abstract
Monte Carlo simulation technique is carried out for the investigation of the time evolution of luminosity function for young globular clusters (GCLF) in external galaxies. The number of clusters per unit mass, the masses of the clusters, radial distribution of the clusters, cluster velocities are considered as random numbers. Several destructive phenomena like tidal evaporation, disc shocking, dynamical friction are considered together with the formation of new globular clusters as a result of high velocity cloud collisions due to tidal forces of external galaxies. The resulting mass spectrum is examined over the next Hubble time. The results are discussed and compared with observations.
