Supernova 2006eb in UGC 771
Abstract
D. C. Leonard, P. M. Nied, and M. R. Davis, San Diego State University; T. R. Norris, California State University, Chico; and M. R. George, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astroophysics, report on behalf of the Caltech Core-Collapse Project (cf. IAUC 8405) that a CCD spectrum (range 460-910 nm) of SN 2006eb (cf. CBET 590), obtained on Aug. 2 UT with the double spectrograph mounted on the Palomar Observatory 5-m Hale telescope, shows it to be an aging type-Ia supernova. When corrected for the redshift of the probable host galaxy, UGC 771 (cataloged redshift of z = 0.017 from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey), it exhibits spectral features very similar to those of SN 1994D at 44 days after peak brightness (cf. Filippenko 1997, ARAA 35, 309), although one emission feature, near 490 nm, is noticeably weaker in the spectrum of SN 2006eb.
