Site for Observing Ionosphere/Geomagnetic Coupling
Abstract
The first US site in the McMAC (Mid-continent Magneto seismic Chain) along the 330 magnetic meridian is in Glyndon, MN. High-rate GPS (Global Positioning System) satellite data is concurrently being used to monitor total electron content (TEC) in nearby Moorhead, MN. Two GPS receivers are in operation, obtaining TEC sequences at rates of 0.5 Hz and a 1.0 Hz rate respectively. Data quality from the Glyndon magnetometer will be examined and compared with data obtained with the IGPP-LANL magnetometer in Cambridge, MN. Cross correlation and multipath estimates of the two GPS receivers will also be examined. The GPS/magnetometer data will be used to investigate ionosphere/magnetosphere coupling of dayside pc3 pulsations.
