Numerical simulations of thin accretion disksÂ
Abstract
AGN and quasars. A very important energy conversion mechanism takes place in these objects, transforming gravitational energy into kinetic and thermal energy of the plasma, and typically converting them into X-ray sources. Within the framework of hydrodynamics, we investigated the temporal evolution of thin accretion disks with axial symmetry. We developeda numerical code that integrates the continuity and Navier-Stokes equations. We evaluated the quality of the code by checking the conservation of the global invariants of the system: mass, angular momentum and energy. We also explored different dynamic regimes and calculated physically relevant quantities such as the accretion rate and the radial distribution of density, temperature and luminosity.
