Integrated Data Analysis: the Other Side of The VO
Abstract
We present initial developments of an integrated data analysis tool that can contribute to generating new science and understanding from the data of the SSSC Great Observatory. Ongoing VO projects such as the VSO, VSPO, or the EGSO, have developed an integrated infrastructure to locate and retrieve heterogeneous and distributed data. Based on these infrastructures, we are now able to address the next challenge of performing integrated data analysis. To demonstrate our approach, we present tools to overlay heterogeneous data in space, time, and energy dimensions. It can be used to compare data from many spacecraft such as RHESSI, TRACE, WIND, STEREO, as well as ground-based instruments including FASR or other radio instruments. Although developed for IDL, the principles used for its development are not limited to that language. Although this example is a simple step in the development of an integrated analysis system for the SSSC, it points to the direction of a new kind of information system that, merged into the VO, will enable tracing easily information from observations all the way from the Sun down to the Earth.
