An examination of upper atmosphere dynamic stability at the meteor region
Abstract
An all-sky meteor radar was set up in January 2002 in Wuhan (30.4°N, 114.6°E) and it is the first meteor radar in China. A wind measurement was achieved using this radar from 2003 May to 2004 May at the meteor region between 86 and 94Km, consequently the wind shear was calculated. Using the temperature derived from the MSISE00 model, the Brunt-Väisälä frequencies are derived, therefore combining these with the wind shear, we can determine an estimate of the gradient Richardson Number, which represents the degree of stability of the upper atmosphere from 2003 May to 2004 May at the meteor region. From the observation of one year, we have detected some seasonal dependence of the stability of the upper atmosphere at the meteor region.
