Step Position Distributions and Wandering Functions for Stepped Crystal Surfaces
Abstract
The Generalized Wigner Distribution has been shown to be in excellent agreement with the Terrace Width Distributions found from Monte Carlo simulations of the Terrace Step Kink model for steps with inverse-square repulsions. This agreement can be understood to be the result of a phenomenological model in which continuum steps are allowed to interact with each other while confined by an effective potential due to all the steps on either side. Here we discuss the results of Step Position Distributions and Wandering Functions found from Monte Carlo simulations, as well as their relation to the phenomenological model.
