Transport Property of an Isolated Gold-Polypyrrole-Gold Nanowire
Abstract
We have developed a synthesis method to grow Au-polypyrrole (PPy)-Au wires as a single body. The wires are fabricated inside an anodic-aluminum-oxide template, by a sequential electrochemical deposition of metal, PPy, and metal. The grown wires have the length of 1--5 μm in which the length of PPy is 50--500 nm, and the diameter of 25--75 nm. We performed the transport measurement of the grown wires. The current increases exponentially at lower voltages (<0.5 V), and is saturated at higher voltages (>2 V). Like other nanowire devices, the source-drain current can be controlled with the gate voltage. It can also be controlled, by changing the doping level of the PPy segment. Since the length of the PPy segment can be controlled by the growth time, we may be able to produce a Schottky transistor with this configuration. The characteristic curve of these active devices will be discussed in detail.
