Transmission Mössbauer Spectroscopy on Pulsed Laser Deposited Mn-Zn Ferrite Thick Magnetic Films
Abstract
We report on the magnetic hyperfine structure of pulsed laser deposited(PLD)Mn-Zn ferrite films using transmission Mössbauer spectroscopy. Measurements were made on several Mn-Zn ferrite films on MgO substrates at room temperature. Films were processed at substrate temperatures of 450, 500, and 600 K. The occupancy was determined for the tetrahedral (A) and octahedral (B) sites. Good spectra were obtained for the films deposited on 0.5 mm thick MgO. Spectra showed the presence of a paramagnetic and ferromagnetic components. Isomer shifts, magnetic fields, quadrupole interactions, and linewidths were calculated and compared to previous measurements on bulk Mn-Zn ferrites. This work demonstrates that measurable transmission Mössbauer spectra may easily be obtained for PLD deposited ferrite films.
