Transport properties of Sr_3Ru_2O7 near the quantum critical point
Abstract
Resistivity of the bilayered ruthenate Sr_3Ru_2O7 was measured at a series of angles between 0^o (H bot c) and 90^o (H \vert \vert c) as a function of field and temperature for 20mK < T < 800mk and H < 18 T. A peak is seen in the ρ (H) curve, which sharpens considerably as the sample orientation changes from 0^o (H bot c) to 90^o (H \vert \vert c). Further, this peak tracks the expected increase in the critical field from 5T to 8T as the sample is rotated. For H \vert \vert c, ρ (T, H) for all fields near the critical metamagnetic field could be well fit to Δ ρ ≡ ρ - ρ (T = 0) = AT^2,^ below a certain temperature, T*. For T > T^* , resistivity with an exponent less than two is observed, which is common in non-Fermi liquid (NFL) systems. Angular dependent magnetoresistivity data will be presented and discussed, and a comparison with recent specific heat data will be made. *Partial support provided by the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory through NSF Cooperative Agreement DMR-0084173 and the State of Florida.
