Fully Relativistic Principal Layer Green Function Approach for Spin Dependent Tunneling
Abstract
We have developed a fully relativistic ab-initio transport method based on the LMTO principal layer Green function framework. This approach can be used to treat simultaneously the effect of spin-polarization and spin-orbit coupling on the electronic transport. For comparison purposes, we have performed test calculations of the spin-orbit coupling parameter and the magnetocrystalline anisotropy energy in several materials. Our goal is to investigate spin-dependent tunneling through a Schottky barrier formed at a ferromagnet/semiconductor interface with spin-scattering effects due to spin-orbit coupling taken into account. The progress of the work and several results will be reported.
