γ and π^0 from the STAR TPC in Au+Au collisions at √s_NN=62 GeV
Abstract
Preliminary results of γ and π^0-meson measurements in Au+Au collisions at √s_NN = 62 GeV are presented. Photons, the decay products of the π^0s, are measured in the STAR TPC after they convert in the inner material of the detector or the TPC gas to e^+-e^--pairs. π^0s are identified on a statistical basis by combining two photons and calculating the invariant mass of the pair. Using this method π^0-spectra can be measured starting from ∼ 0.5 GeV/c in transverse momentum up to ∼ 5 GeV/c with the available statistics. A range of ± 1 units of rapidity is covered. The physics implications of these measurements will be discussed.
