Rotse Downunder; Auto Location of GRB Optical Counterparts
Abstract
During December 2002 a US-built ROTSE telescope was delivered to Siding Spring Observatory NSW Australia. ROTSE or 'Robotic Optical Transient Search Experiment' is a global network of small fast-slewing optical telescopes which will automatically respond to on-line GRB alerts and detect and locate optical transients within a star field. Upon positive detection of a GRB optical transient the ROTSE telescope will automatically broadcast the position and photometry via the GRB GCN network. The Australian ROTSE telescope will commence routine patrolling during March 2003.
